# xarray.Index.to_pandas_index

#### Index.to_pandas_index()[[source]](https://github.com/pydata/xarray/blob/main/xarray/core/indexes.py#L248-L258)

Cast this xarray index to a pandas.Index object or raise a
`TypeError` if this is not supported.

This method is used by all xarray operations that still rely on
pandas.Index objects.

By default it raises a `TypeError`, unless it is re-implemented in
subclasses of Index.
